In December 1990, David Wayne Tamihere, a usual suspect with a criminal past, was framed by police and convicted of murdering the pair, and sentenced to life imprisonment based largely on the testimony of three prison inmates including “Witness C”, Robert Conchie Harris, who himself had been convicted of the double murder in 1983.
Höglin’s body was discovered in 1991, revealing evidence which contradicted the police case against him. Paakkonen’s body has never been found, and the real murderer(s) never brought to justice.
Bushman Alan Ford found a bag of clothing with three pairs of “really, really old” and decaying women’s leggings inside buried under a layer of pine needles in a patch of remote pine forestry only 15 kilometres from where Urban’s body was found in 1991, which he thought might have belonged to Heidi, said a report.
Ford took the bag into the Whangamata police station on May 5, 2017. However, police destroyed the potential evidence, without first carrying out any forensic examination. Photos posted at

Sven Urban Höglin and his fiancée Heidi Birgitta Paakkonen didn’t come from wealthy families, so there were no official apologies by a PM, past or present, and no one ever held a vigil or sang the Amazing Grace in their memory!

Hit and run killer gets only 11 months home detention
The mother of Auckland hit and run victim Nathan Kraatskow has attacked the pathetic sentence handed down to her son’s “road-murderer”.
The killer, Rouxle Le Roux, who was drinking and smoking marijuana on the night she hit 15-year-old Kraatskow, was sentenced only to 11 months home detention, 250 hours community work and two-and-a-half years of driving disqualification.
The frigging judge Nicola Mathers discounted her sentence because of “her young age, her clean record and her early guilty plea.”
“She started with a sentence of three-and-a-half years in prison, but with discounts that was reduced to 11 months home detention.”
