Dumbass pakeha soldier killed in Afghanistan by friendly fire!

“The Guardian newspaper reported Howard was killed by cannon fire from a low-flying US jet.

“The plane – believed to be an F18 – was on a strafing run, flying low while firing at targets on the ground, after it was called in by British troops engaged in a gunfight with insurgents, the newspaper reported.”

NZ military spent more than $2.7 million on public relations and communication in the past financial year to spin its involvement in wars of occupation across the world.

te2ataria – why do you refer to the late Private Howard as a “dumbass”?

If anyone was at fault it would appear to be the US pilot. In any event friendly fire deaths are an inevitable event in combat. My own brother (also a New Zealander serving in the British Army) was almost killed by mortar fire from his own side on one of his tours of Afghanistan. He was unscathed but some of his colleagues were not so lucky).

They need to be investigated so lessons can be learned. But, as I say, friendly fire is a constant in the fog of war. One estimate is that 30 per cent of US combat casualties in Vietnam were inflicted by troops on the same side. I find that difficult to accept but others will know better than me.

      @ Paul Pemberton
TEAA shouldn’t have called the soldier a “dumbass”.
The argument went something alone the lines of “would smart people put themselves in certain harm’s way, especially for absolutely no reason whatever?”
