A man [believed to be a tourist,] who was reported overdue on a climbing trip up Mt Taranaki yesterday has been found deceased. His body was located on the mountain by Search and Rescue just after midnight. Police say they are in the process of notifying his next of kin.

TWO females indecently assaulted in ‘Crime City’

Police say they are currently investigating two incidents last night where female victims were indecently assaulted while out jogging in public in Royal Oak.

The first incident took place just after 7.30pm on Acorn St where the victim was approached by a young male aged in his teens or early twenties with a slim build.

The second incident took place a short time later less than 500 metres away on Mt Smart Rd. Police believe the two incidents are linked.

Neither of the victims were injured in the incidents, but both of them were left shaken and alarmed from being indecently assaulted.

Deadly crash on SH8 in Central Otago
At least one person was killed in a crash involving a bus and a 4WD vehicle on SH8, north of the Roxburgh village in Central Otago at 1.52pm today, police said.

At least ten other people were injured, including three patients with serious injuries, four patients with moderate injuries and others with less serious injuries.

The three patients with serious injuries have been taken by helicopter to Dunedin and ambulances are at the scene also. [Nationality of the victims has not been revealed.]

An infamous Wellington walkway is looking for a new name in a bid to help rid its dark past, a report said.

The pathway, which runs runs between Victoria University’s Boyd Wilson Field and The Terrace, is currently without an official name, but simply known as “Rape Alley” because of numerous attacks on women.

At least four people were killed in a violent crash involving two cars, a white Toyota Corolla and a [black] BMW.

The crash occurred on State Highway 2  at Netherton in Waikato.

Three of the five people in a white Toyota Corolla were killed and the remaining two are in Waikato Hospital in a serious but stable condition, after undergoing surgery last night.

The driver and sole occupant of the BMW was also killed.

Graduating doctors starting work with about $100K debt

Graduating medical students are starting their working life with student loan debts of about $100k, says a new University of Auckland study, which also shows the average medical student debt has increased by $20,000 in the last 10 years.

“This kind of high level of debt is obviously particularly worrying if you don’t have the kind of confidence that you’ll be able to pay that back and of course people who come from wealthier backgrounds are likely to be more confident that they’ll be able to pay back that debt,” said Medical Students Association president.

Bus drivers in the sky:  NZ’s pilot numbers continue to fall

Civil Aviation Authority data show the number of sky bus drivers in commercial and air transport it approved fell by almost a half, from 709 to 386, between 2009 and 2016.

Entry-level pilots are required to clock at least 1,500 hours of flying.

“You could be talking about a two-year course with a six-figure student loan, and you are probably employable at not too far above the minimum wage as a very inexperienced, low-hours instructor,” said the president of Flying New Zealand.
