Swarm of at least 28 earthquakes reported between Turangi and Lake Rotoaira 

A swarm of at least 28 earthquakes ranging in magnitude from M0.4 to 2.2 and in depth from 5 to10 km occurred between Turangi and Lake Rotoaira over the last week, the resident rocket scientist at Geonet said.

Researchers from Bong [“Otago”] University and the Best Practice Advocacy, have found found “a sharp rise in prescription medicine use by children, including a 50 percent increase in prescriptions for the antidepressant fluoxetine.”

They analysed the use of pharmaceuticals by 1.4 million New Zealand children between 2010 and 2015, and discovered that the number of prescriptions of fluoxetine for kids over the age of 12 had risen by 50 percent. a report said.

A mumps outbreak in Auckland has infected about 170 people, most of them aged between 10 and 19.  Mumps is a serious and highly infectious viral disease.

The mumps outbreak in Auckland continues, with the majority of cases occurring among those aged 10 to 19 years and arising in West Auckland. Overseas incursions continue (15%), however the majority of transmission is occurring in the community. Early morning robbery at 24-hour Auckland McDonald’s
Four people,armed with various tools including hammers, axes and crowbars, entered the Westgate restaurant at 3.15am and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

TWO females indecently assaulted in ‘Crime City’

Police say they are currently investigating two incidents last night where female victims were indecently assaulted while out jogging in public in Royal Oak.

The first incident took place just after 7.30pm on Acorn St where the victim was approached by a young male aged in his teens or early twenties with a slim build.

The second incident took place a short time later less than 500 metres away on Mt Smart Rd. Police believe the two incidents are linked.

Neither of the victims were injured in the incidents, but both of them were left shaken and alarmed from being indecently assaulted.

Deadly Crashes on New Zealand Death Roads

Deadly crash on SH8 in Central Otago
At least one person was killed in a crash involving a bus and a 4WD vehicle on SH8, north of the Roxburgh village in Central Otago at 1.52pm today, police said.

At least ten other people were injured, including three patients with serious injuries, four patients with moderate injuries and others with less serious injuries.

The three patients with serious injuries have been taken by helicopter to Dunedin and ambulances are at the scene also. [Nationality of the victims has not been revealed.]

Did this bank robber get away with a 5-figure loot?

At 4.10pm on Tuesday 27th June a man carrying a sawn-off shotgun entered the ASB bank on Blockhouse Bay Road and demanded cash from bank staff. The man pointed the shotgun at bank staff and demanded cash however staff were able to activate the emergency security screens which prevented the offender obtaining any cash and he immediately left empty handed, police said. However, Informed sources say he manage to grab more than $15,000, despite the police statement .

Dunedin – Ross Creek Sexual Assault: a 23 year-old woman was sexually assaulted [raped] at Ross Creek in Dunedin on Monday, 30 November.  The attacker is described as European, tall, of a skinny build and of an undetermined age. Dunedin – Cyclist attacked on Portsmouth Drive:  a 45 year old female was riding her bike on Portsmouth Drive, around the area of The Molars, near the intersection of Strathallan, when she was attacked by a male, police said. The attacker shouted at her before grabbing her bike and punching her approximately four times in the right side of her body. The Disturbing Police Reassurance

Inspector Kelvin Lloyd, Acting Area Commander: Otago Coastal, is also aware of the sentiments which are being felt around the Dunedin community.

“I’m aware there are quite a lot of concerned residents across the Dunedin area who are worried about the incidents over the last week. I can’t reiterate enough that we have an experienced and professional group of staff who are working extremely hard to resolve each of these cases.

“I can confirm these cases are in no way linked to each other. For operational reasons, and while a homicide investigation is ongoing, I’m not in a position to explain in detail why they’re not linked, but the information police currently have strongly indicates this is the case.”

Emily Jordan’s Family Victimized Twice!

When Israelis are killed in New Zealand, their families hit the 8-figure compensation jackpot; the Brits get peanuts [and probably a pair of discounted air tickets.]

Miss Jordan, who graduated from Swansea University , drowned after becoming trapped beneath underwater rocks for 20 minutes.

Chris Jordan, father of Emily Jordan who was drowned in the Kawarau River Gorge in Central Otago in April 2008, received $80,000 [£33,600] in reparations for his “special Daughter’s) negligent homicide. It had cost the family about 10 times as much to raise her.

It’s not known why he agreed to the micky-mouse death compensation, unless the media aren’t telling us everything.

The company, Mad Dog River Boarding, responsible for the victim’s death, was fined $66,000 for Emily Jordan’s negligent homicide.

Emily Jordan’s father told The Otago Daily Times: “We have got to get something out of this, otherwise Emily’s death would be for nothing.

“Many activities in New Zealand carry little or no regulation.

“I have a major problem with this. If anyone wanted to, say, start up a new activity tomorrow going down a river on your head, it would be permissible.”

If indeed NZ Govt hasn’t secretly topped up the reparations to the Jordan family, then they should sue the government.

“The higher suburbs of Dunedin, Otago’s eastern hills and the Canterbury foothills and plains could experience northwest winds, gusting up to 130kmh in exposed areas, said forecaster Allister Gorman.” It was reported.

“These gusts have the potential to damage trees and power lines and will make driving conditions difficult for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.”

“Up to 130mm of rain could fall over an 18 hour period in Fiordland and the mountain ranges of Westland and Buller from tonight, causing rivers and streams to rise rapidly and flood.”
