The driver of a “stolen” vehicle fled from Police on Marine Parade in Napier around 10.30am on Monday 22 October. Police falsely claim that it rammed several patrol cars.

The often fatal disease meningococcal has killed a teenager attending the St John Youth Camp on Motutapu Island, Hauraki Gulf, according to Auckland Regional Public Health Service.

NZ Health Warning: ‘Superbug’ found in people in Hutt Valley

Latest cluster of superbug carriers originated in the community

Hutt Valley DHB has identified a cluster of at least five carriers of the antibiotics resistant superbug Carbapenam Producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE).

“We had the first confirmed laboratory result on Saturday 25 August and the most recent case was identified this Friday 12 October. Patients and their health professionals have been informed of the results immediately,” Hutt Valley DHB reported.

Only one out of the five people developed the infection and it was treated successfully, claims Hutt Valley District Health Board infectious diseases doctor Matthew Kelly.

At least 50 people nationwide have been discovered to carry CPE this year so far, Kelly said.

“There have been an increasing number of CPE cases identified in NZ and so far this year there have been around 50 cases. Most people found to have CPE in New Zealand became infected overseas, particularly if they had been in an overseas hospital.”

Tourism and antibiotic resistance rates globally, among other factors, contribute to the exponential  rise in the spread of superbugs.

However, the latest cluster of cases “appears to have originated in the community, however Hutt Valley DHB has not, to date, been able to confirm the source of infection.”

The Final Destination: Four More Foreigners Violently Killed in NZ

Young Indian man violently killed in head-on collision with another foreigner

Yatharth Vats, 23, an international student from India, was one of the drivers violently killed in a head-on crash on a deadly stretch of Taranaki highway on Sunday night.

“The name of the driver of the other vehicle, who is also foreign and died at the scene, has not yet released by police as they continue to work to notify next of kin,” police said.
