Robinson helicopters: 40 per cent of NZ’s helicopter fleet could be flying deathtraps

Shameless Charity: CEO receives more money than all of the disabled

Posted by te2ataria on October 30, 2016

HDSF pays 50% of its revenues to staff, less than 8% to disabled kids

The Halberg Disability Sports Foundation is under fire for paying out less than $200,000 a year to disabled children and their families, or about 8% of $2.5 million of revenue they raked in last year, said a report.

HDSF has been described as a “money-making machine” by informed critics, who have highlighted “the inequities between what is paid out to staff in wages and what is distributed to the disabled community.”

Staff were paid more than $1.2 million for the 2015 financial year, making a a net deficit of $49,961. It has 15 full-time workers and four part-timers. [WTF! That’s 50% of the revenue. Moderator DH]

However, CEO Shelley McMeeken, who receives a healthy pay package of $280,000 in salary and perks annually, according to unconfirmed reports, said critics misunderstood the role and business model of the foundation.

The latest set of accounts for the charitable trust show that they had a total gross income for the 2015 financial year of $2.59m. Of that, just $197,898 was paid out in grants to 362 individuals or clubs, less than eight per cent of revenue. This is in keeping with the previous two years, where grants to individuals and clubs totalled 6.9% and 7.2% of revenue.

“The accounts posted on the Charities Register shows that the Halberg Disability Sports Foundation recorded 700 paid hours a week. There are no volunteer hours.

“Out of its total gross income, $287,415 was received as donations $783,269 was in government grants, $666,312 was from other grants and sponsorships, and $806,804 was in trading or service income.

“Another $49,730 was described as other investment income,” said a report.

At least one in nine (11 per cent) of New Zealanders under the age of 15 have a disability, according to the Department of Statistics.

The Biggest Black Hole of Charities in the Milking Way Galaxy

The Biggest Black Hole of Charities in the Milking Ways, also known as the American Charity Mafia, or “The Red Cross,” rakes in billions of dollars in donations, but has a payout averaging in a low single digit. For more information see links below:

  • Haiti Earthquake Disaster. Red Cross Misled Congress, Refused To ‘Level With the People’ on Haiti Money. After the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the Red Cross spent tens of millions of dollars more than it has previously acknowledged on internal expenses. The Red Cross told Grassley that the money was largely spent on oversight to make sure the Haiti aid was used properly. But Grassley’s office found that the charity “is unable to provide any financial evidence that oversight activities in fact occurred.”

Young victim in a coma because of police pursuit?

Posted by te2ataria on October 22, 2016

Sent by a reader in Taranaki

Was police chasing “hit-and-run driver” when victim was hit?

A 61-year-old driver has been arrested over an alleged hit-and-run in Whanganui early this morning. The victim, Jesse Minnell, 24, was said to be in a critical/ serious condition.

How Did the Crash Happen?

Police have alleged that they were dealing with a pub fight outside the Red Lion Inn on Anzac Parade when a car swerved into the crowd and hit 24-year-old Jesse Minnell, around 2.20am. However, the nearby residents had heard nothing about the alleged brawl.

The driver is said to have left the scene in a late-model dark-blue BMW, without the police, or anyone else, noticing the licence plates!!

“Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Forlong said earlier that, while police had been at the scene at the time, they did not manage to get a licence plate number for the offending car.”

Mr Minnell’s mother and father were with him in the hospital, where they said he had been in an induced coma with bleeding in two parts of the brain.

He was earlier described as being in a critical condition.

Family friend Des Attwell told RNZ he thought the officers at the scene should have been able to get the licence plate number.

“Just sounds like very poor training to me. I mean, it’s seems like a simple procedure – if you’re pursuing a car, what’s the first thing you do? See what the number plate is, call it in. It seems somewhat remiss.”

The police were not responding to Mr Attwell’s criticism, but confirmed officers were being questioned as witnesses.

What Pub Brawl???

A manager at the Red Lion Inn said they did not want to comment.

Mike Woodhead, the owner-operator at a nearby Four Square supermarket, said he had been talking to a witness who was “shaken” from the incident.

Woodhead arrived at work at 4.45am on Saturday to find Anzac Parade had been closed off. “There were no police. It was just the security and the road workers closing the road.”

While serving customers in the morning, Woodhead said he talked to a person who witnessed the events outside the Red Lion Inn.

“I know one guy who saw it and he was a bit upset by it all. He was a bit shaken up.”

He said most neighbours he had talked to in the area had not heard any commotion during the early hours of the morning.

Just how many beggars are there in Hamilton???

Beggars aren’t born that way, they’re created by the wealthy class!

The Hamilton Central Business Association is campaigning stop people giving money to beggars.

They want to evict the poor and needy from the central city, and are asking people to give the beggars the “correct” help, instead of money.

“A recent Poverty Action Waikato report, Neglect and Nurture presents a more flax-roots picture than is usually painted by the Key Government. It illustrates the increased conditionality of public and social services in Hamilton,” says a member of the Poverty Action Waikato working group.

Kangaroo Court finds Gable Tostee not guilty of killing Warriena Wright

IF YOU’RE WHITE AND WEALTHY, YOU CAN STILL GET AWAY WITH MURDER, AND MANSLAUGHTER,  IN AUSTRALIA.

The white and wealthy Gable Tostee has been found not guilty of killing Tinder date Warriena Wright, who “fell” to her death from his 14th-floor apartment balcony on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

A [racist] Supreme Court jury in Brisbane has acquitted Tostee of both murder and manslaughter, with the decision handed down just hours after defence lawyers called for a mistrial, said a report.

“Jurors rejected the crown’s case that Mr Tostee had intimidated the New Zealand tourist, terrifying the 26-year-old so much as to cause her to scale his balcony to escape.”

After having sex at Mr Tostee’s Surfers Paradise unit the pair had a violent drunken fight.

Prosecutor Glen Cash QC argued while Ms Wright had probably unlawfully assaulted Mr Tostee just prior to being locked outside, his response was disproportionate and unlawful.

He physically restrained and restricted Ms Wright’s throat with his forearm, the prosecution alleged, and was recorded saying she was lucky he had not thrown her off the balcony.

“If you try and pull anything, I’ll knock you out, I’ll knock you the f— out. Do you understand?” he was recorded saying.

Mr Cash said Mr Tostee’s intimidating conduct left Ms Wright feeling like she had no means of escape other than scaling the balcony.

The victim screamed “no” 33 times in 45 seconds.

Barrister for defence, Saul Holt QC, said Mr Tostee had ordered Ms Wright to leave his apartment via the front door, but she hit him with the metal part of a telescope, after which he grabbed her and put her behind the “nearest lockable door.” [He did NOT explain why he failed follow through and  push her out of his apartment instead of “locking her up”.]

Merzabeth Tagpuno (centre), Ms Wright’s mother, found the audio recordings of her daughter’s screams painful to hear. (Photo credit: AAP/Dan Peled)

Little they knew that grim death would soon o’ertake them

Remains of the missing Canadian tourist finally show up!

The Canadian tourists toured South America without so much as a scratch, then they came to New Zealand.

On September 2, 2013, the couple hired a campervan in Nelson and hit the road.

Little they knew that grim death would soon o’ertake them. They were killed within a week.

Their campervan was swept off State Highway 6 near Haast Pass due to a large landslide.

Joanna Lam, 24, from Ontario, and Connor Hayes, 25, from Ottawa, were killed as a result.

Joanna Lam’s body was located in a subsequent search but Connor Hayes’ body was never found.

In August 2016, a hunter located a human thigh bone at the confluence of the Haast and Burke Rivers. Subsequent DNA analysis confirms this being part-remains of Mr Hayes.

On Sunday 16 October 2016, a further search on the Haast River lead to the recovery of a number of items of interest from the riverbed. http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/development-search-missing-tourist
