Robinson helicopters: 40 per cent of NZ’s helicopter fleet could be flying deathtraps
Two unidentified people were killed when their commercial helicopter, a Robinson R44, crashed in Northland’s Glenbervie Forest.
According to the managing director of the timber harvesting company Rayonier, the two employees were contract workers. But he was unable to identify the victims (!)
Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) has added Rail crossings and Robinson helicopters to their “watch-list” of country’s biggest safety concerns.
Strangely, they are NOT allowed to add driving on NZ death roads to their watch-list of serious transport concerns (!)
