The two people who were killed in a helicopter crash north of Kaikoura yesterday were Andrew Hamish Davidson, 60, and Lin Chen, 39, who lived in Ohoka, police said.

“The Airbus Helicopter EC120 was travelling from Christchurch with five people on board when it went out of control close to the beach.
“Their two young children and a third child survived the crash but were seriously injured.”
“The children – two boys and a girl, all aged under 14 – were airlifted to Wellington Hospital.”

A body believed to be that of missing pilot Matthew Wallis was retrieved from Lake Wanaka. Wallis’ helicopter crashed after leaving Wanaka Airport on a short solo flight to Mt Aspiring National Park on Saturday afternoon.

Two pilots killed when two light planes crashed near Masterton were flying at low altitude in an uncontrolled air space.
Joshua Christensen, 20, was flying a Cessna 185 belonging to Lloyd’s Skydive Wellington and Craig McBride, 66, of Wairarapa Aero Club was flying the club’s Tecnam trainer when the two planes collided just south of Hood Aerodrome on June 16.

March 23, 2019
Two experienced flight instructors died after the Diamond DA42 Twin Star aircraft they were flying in crashed in the Kaimawana Ranges.
The bodies of Peter Callagher, 27, and Zakir Ali Parkar, 29, were found in the wreckage in steep terrain the day after the crash. Bad weather had hampered the search effort. The men were experienced flight instructors from Ardmore Flying School in South Auckland.
