Deadly meningococcal ‘super-strain’ cases exponentially increasing –Report

Posted by te2ataria on November 18, 2018

Foreword:   NZ government (police and Ministry of Resurrection) under-report road fatalities in the same way Puerto Rican officials (US Govt) misled the world following Hurricane Maria. Death toll from the destructive storm was reported at only 64, instead of the scientifically researched total of 2,975.

In NZ, about two-thirds of road fatalities go unreported, or unrecorded by the authorities to protect the cutthroat tourism and banking! [See blog entries under Ministry of Resurrection.]

Deadly ST-11 strain of meningitis W rising in NZ

The number of cases of the deadly ST-11 strain of meningitis W (MenW) has risen over the past three years from five in 2016, 12 for last year, and to 25 so far this year, ESR reported.

“When we started to notice the numbers rising, we began increasing our reporting. For the past 12 months we’ve been reporting to the Ministry bi-weekly, but in light of the most recent numbers, we’ve moved that to reporting on a weekly basis.”

In Australia, MenW became the dominant strain in 2016. Experts say:

  • The highly virulent ST-11 strain is causing severe disease in healthy teenagers and young adults
  • Victims more likely to dye from it than from other strains
  • MenW can also cause unusual symptoms not normally associated with meningitis, such as bone and lung infections, making it difficult for experts to diagnose

ST-11 strain cases rising in the UK

  • Meningococcal Group W (MenW): A new, virulent strain of meningitis and septicaemia
  • Cases of meningococcal W disease are rising steeply in the UK
Our genome library has identified the rise is due to a particularly virulent ST-11 strain
  • This strain is more deadly with a higher than usual death rate of 13%
  • These cases often have different symptoms to other kinds of meningococcal disease
  • Rather than meningitis or septicaemia, some people with MenW infection may get septic arthritis or a severe respiratory tract infection, such as pneumonia, epiglottitis or supraglottitis (in these latter two conditions there is a dangerous swelling around the “lid” that covers the windpipe , blocking the flow of air into the lungs).

The rise in this ST-11 MenW disease is particularly alarming because it is striking mainly healthy people across all age groups, with a marked spike amongst teenagers and cases are rising steeply. 34 cases were reported in January 2015 compared with 18 and 9 for the same time period over the previous two years.

Official figures revealed cases of the deadly strain of meningitis had rocketed by 922 per cent in eight years (2009 to 2017).
The deadly MenW super-strain infected 225 people between July 2016 and and October 2017. In contrast, just 22 people were struck down in 2009/10.
