Only 9 percent of rapes [and sexual crimes] are reported [registered by the police] in NZ, however, according to government figures. Of the reported cases, only 13 percent end in a conviction. That means 91 percent of the rapes either go unreported, or the victims are intimidated by police to drop their complaints.

One killed in Ashhurst crash
One person was killed in a single vehicle crash in Ashhurst, northeast of Palmerston North. The collision between the vehicle and a power pole occurred just before 11:50am today on Colyton Road, police said.

UPDATE – Marshland Road Canterbury crash
“The crash on Marshland Rd is serious and the road is likely to remain closed through the afternoon peak period. One person is in a serious condition.”

Emergency services in attendance at crash in Kingseat
“Police and emergency services are in attendance at a crash on Kingseat Road near McKenzie Road.
A car and bus have collided just after 6:00am and diversions are expected to be in place, however there is no information available on these at this time.
One person has serious injuries and a number of other people have moderate to minor injuries.”

“At 2.27pm this afternoon Police were notified of a crash involving three vehicles just north of Wellsford on SH1, at the intersection of Waimanu Road and SH1.
