Powerful rainstorms with hurricane-force winds, as flooding washes out bridges and destroys roads…

Welcome to New Zealand, but can’t you take the hint???

Powerful storm system with winds of up to 167km/h have lashed the lower half of the North Island, causing widespread flooding and power cuts and forcing multiple evacuations across the region.

The floods have been described as the worst ever in the region.

Earlier, the storm dumped snow on parts of Canterbury, Otago and Southland, as a major winter chill gripping the south of the South Island, said a report.

The snow and ice forced closure of  about a dozen South Island roads and highways today.

Police Road Fatality Reports [Extreme Censorship is in Effect for Commercial Reasons]

• Wednesday, July 12: No road fatality report allowed by police, today, as of posting, despite at least 12 serious crashes reported locally.
• Tuesday, July 11: ONLY two road fatality reports allowed by police, today, as of posting, despite at least 11 serious crashes reported locally.
• Monday, July 10: NO road fatality report allowed by police, today, as of posting, despite at least 12 serious crashes reported locally.
• Update – Sunday, July 9: Only one road fatality report was allowed by police, despite at least nine serious crashes reported locally.
• Saturday, June 17: Only EIGHT road fatality reports were allowed by police, as of posting, despite at least 22 serious crashes reported locally.
