Myrtle rust infects at least 20 properties nationally: MPI

Some 16 properties in Taranaki, 3 in Northland and 1 in Waikato are now infected with the disease. For clarification, the property announced yesterday as Kaikohe is actually in nearby Tāheke.

“The affected properties are a mix of nurseries, private gardens, retailers/distributors and an orchard.”

“To date, the rust has been found on pōhutukawa, lophomyrtus, eucalyptus and a single instance each of mānuka and Syzgimum smithii. It has not been observed on feijoa as yet.” (MPI)

 Typhoid: Two cases reported in Palmerston North

MidCentral District Health Board has confirmed that the two new cases of typhoid are related to an outbreak of the disease in Auckland last month.

In April, the outbreak in Auckland killed a woman and left at least 18 others infected with the disease.

Fatal crash in Dunedin – Name release
“Southern District Police can now release the name of the man killed in a two-vehicle crash in Dunedin on Tuesday. He was 27-year-old Richard Gordon Harley, of Mosgiel. The crash happened on Saddle Hill Road around 11:30am on May 23.”
