World’s busiest tourist deathtrap claims two more lives

Update- 6 December 2012: The media have now reported that one of the two tourists killed near Pelorus Bridge was French and the other a German national. Moderator D.H.

Two more tourists were killed this afternoon in a head-on collision near Pelorus Bridge in Marlborough. The two victims are believed to be Americans, according to an unconfirmed report.

Two others, both female, were taken to Wairau Hospital with serious head and spinal injuries.

The crash occurred between a vehicle and an ute about 1pm on the Nelson side of Pelorus Bridge, according to a report.

The report did not state the fate of the occupants of a third vehicle, if any, shown in the photo:
