Methamphetamine: Establishment’s weapon of choice!

Official figures for 2014-2015 show that around 0.9 percent of the NZ adult population were using methamphetamine, requiring an undistributed supply of the class A drug. However, at least 30 times as much P are distributed throughout the country, with official blessing!

Methamphetamine (P) has become so endemic in New Zealand there are now reports of primary-age children taking the drug to school.”

A “class A drug”, Methamphetamine (meth) is also known as P, pure, crystal, crack, ice, yaba, goey, crank and Tina. It comes as a powder, crystals or liquid.

The use of P, or methamphetamine, took off like a rocket in 2002. By 2005, it had crossed all sections of society — the party scene, the smart suburbs, the poor suburbs. Now it has become a fixture of the New Zealand landscape. Public enemy No. 1.

Schoolkids suspected of being affected by P use have developmental problems, said Tai Tokerau Principals’ Association president Pat Newman.

“Their socialisation skills are sort of at the one to two-year-old age; we’re getting an effect through increased violence and irrationality.”

There’s a growing problem with children being born into families with P-addicted parents, New Zealand Principals’ Federation president Whetu Cormick.

“Increasingly we’re hearing from colleagues across the country, about the concern they have with children presenting at school who are – as awful as it sounds – P babies,” he said.
