Four earthquakes strike West Coast of the South Island, felt by hundreds
The first two quakes measuring 3.1 and 3.8 magnitudes hit 65km north-west of Methven at a depths of 5 and 6km respectively at 1.02pm. GeoNet tried to push own reports under the rug, classifying them as ‘unnoticeable’, however, more than 400 families had recorded feeling the seismicity on GeoNet‘s website.
Two additional shocks measuring 4.5 and 4.8 magnitudes hit shortly afterwards at shallow depths of 5km and 4km respectively.

“Police have today been working to understand the circumstances surrounding the death of a man found on a train near the Port of Tauranga this morning.
The man has been identified as a 38-year-old from Whakamarama.
His body was found by staff unloading train carriages at the Port at around 6.40am.
It appears that the man fell from an overbridge in the Whakamarama area and landed on top of a train carriage. His body has then been carried on the train to the rail yards at the port.”
