Fatal workplace incident in Penrose, Auckland
A person was killed in a workplace incident at an industrial site on Neilson St, Penrose. “Police were notified shortly before 12.30pm to an incident involving a fork-hoist. The deceased is a male.

Man critically injured in workplace accident in Golflands
Thursday, 15 June 2017 – 1:04pm – Counties Manukau –
A male has received critical injuries in Golfland Drive, Golflands and has been taken to Middlemore Hospital after being trapped between a rubbish truck and a tree. “Work-un-safe” New Zealand have been advised, police said.

  • No road fatality report allowed by police today, Thursday, as of posting, despite at least FOUR serious crashes reported locally.
  • Wednesday’s Update: A fatal  vehicle crash occurred shortly after 8pm on SH26 Paeroa Kopu Road, police said.
  • Tuesday Update: Person killed overnight in car fire. (See above.)
  • Sunday’s Update: 
    • Nigel Sammons, the 33-year-old man who was found dead on Black Street, Wairoa (Hawke’s Bay), around 5am on Sunday may have been hit by a vehicle, police said.
  • Saturday’s Update:
    • A man was killed after his car crashed into a roadside embankment near Taupō Saturday night, just before 11.30pm.
  • Friday’s Update:
    • Pedestrian hit on Tuesday, died Friday June 9.
    •  Fatal crash into a paddock in Himatangi Beach, Manawatu (see below for details.)

Body Found in Lake

Vehicle and body recovered in Lake Arapuni, Waikato
As part of the search for missing Arohena woman Kim Richmond, Waikato Police have today recovered a vehicle from Lake Arapuni, Waikato.  The vehicle recovered is the 2014 silver Ford Ranger that Ms Richmond was believed to be driving prior to her disappearance on 31 July 2016. Second fatal workplace incident in Rolleston in four days
Monday, 12 June 2017 – 12:33pm – Canterbury – Yet another workplace incident at a poultry farm in Broadfield, Rolleston area has left a woman dead, police said. Emergency services were notified around 11:30am, and WorkSafe will be notified.

First Body Found:

Police say they are investigating whether the man who was found deceased in Wairoa Sunday morning may have been hit by a vehicle. The 33-year-old  man was found dead on Black Street around 5am on Sunday morning.

“Based on our initial enquiries and the scene examination that was completed yesterday, we believe he may have been hit by a vehicle,” police said.

Police find body in Waitemata Harbour
Monday, 12 June 2017 – 3:41pm – Auckland City – [Yet another] body has been recovered by the Police in the Waitemata Harbour this morning. The body was located near Te Atatu in the harbour around 9.30am. The body is that of a male but police are unable to confirm the identity.

Chinese doctor David Kang Huat Lim, 41, was found guilty of five charges of stupefying and five charges of indecent assault in relation to four of his patients. The jury reached unanimous decisions on all charges.

Proudly killed in New Zealand

The family of the Australian hunter who was killed in a fall down a steep ravine near Fox Glacier on Wednesday say they are glad he died doing something he loved [in New Zealand, and not in NSW.]

The body of Tony Campbell, 66, said to be an  experienced hunter, from New South Wales, was found by his son with whom he had been hunting in the Westland Ranges, south of Karangarua, said a report.

Myrtle rust update – Friday 2 June 2017

“There are 34 confirmed properties with myrtle rust infection – 29 of these are in Taranaki with 3 in Northland and 2 in Waikato (King Country),” MPI said.

While most of the infections have been found on young seedlings, there are instances of the rust appearing in large established trees at a number of locations.

The spread of this fungal plant disease could have serious impacts on a range of plants in the myrtle family including pōhutukawa, mānuka, ramarama, feijoa and eucalypts, MPI said.

WTF: A Neilsen survey commissioned by Maritime New Zealand and WorkSafe found nearly a third (28 percent) of crew members on commercial fishing vessels have suffered a significant injury while a further one in four (26 percent) have experienced a near-miss, said a report.

“Since 2010, 25 crew members have died and the families of nine of those lost at sea did not have the comfort of bringing a body home.

“The Accident Compensation Corporation has had an average 966 active commercial fishing claims over the past five years and in 2016 it received 633 new claims…”
