Baby’s body found on Mangere Bridge
A passer-by found a dead baby on Mona Avenue, Mangere Bridge this morning. Police have not yet confirmed any detail of the discovery, but the scene has been cordoned for a forensic examination.

Body being recovered from Waikato River, [Bay of Plenty of Deaths]
Taupo Police say they recovered the body of a 32-year-old man, identified as Brent Christoffersen, from the Waikato River Last night. They responded to reports concerning a man in the water near the Huka Falls.

Man killed in Ahipara crash in Far Nor
[This was the 12th such unusual road fatality on NZ roads so far this year. To the best of our knowledge, this type of road death is almost unique to New Zealand. Moderator DH.]
A man was killed in a “single car crash” in Ahipara south east of Kaitaia. “He was ejected from the car and was killed after the vehicle landed on top of him, a police spokesman said.”

Geonet ‘puzzled’ by aftershock sequence following the Kaikoura quake
“Seismologists” at Geonet have been left scratching their butts at the aftershock pattern following the M7.8 Kaikoura earthquake. They think the number of aftershocks has fallen rapidly compared to how many were expected!! [As to why they changed the earthquake magnitude from M7.5 to M7.8, there’s still no “scientific” answer.]
