Graphic torture: One email showed a black man being beaten up and tortured!
The offensive emails are too shocking to ever be released publicly, the Victoria state’s police chief Simon Overland says.
“A tragic event has happened,” Overland said. “It’s deeply, deeply regrettable and we need to learn the lessons but it doesn’t mean that I can or should avoid my responsibilities around the good order and governance of Victoria Police.”
The Age newspaper said the police internal investigation centred on a graphic images of coloured [African] man being tortured. As the e-mails circulated, each police vomit bag had added further racist comments prior to forwarding the the images to the next person.
The e-mails apparently targeted both the Indians and Africans, the two minority groups that have recently criticised police conduct.
“Overland last week acknowledged a small minority of police officers were racist, in response to a report that said police suffered from a ‘culture of racism.'” A report said.

The Public Right to Know
“It is extremely serious, it’s offensive, and my view is that it would cause significant concern and alarm in the community if the material was made public,” he said.
“I’m not going to describe exactly the nature of the material in question,” he told ABC radio.
Censorship Always Justified to Protect Corrupt Police
“If the Victorian public were aware of the nature of that material, I believe that it’s of such a nature that it would cause significant concern within the Victorian community.”
“We’re not talking about one item, we’re talking about multiple items,” he said.
Tony Vangorp Afraid of Consequences
Tony Vangorp, 47, a senior officer at the Healesville station in Melbourne’s Yarra Ranges, who was about to be sacked, tendered his resignation last Friday and shot himself on Monday night.

“Racist attitudes held by members of Victoria Police – that is not OK. Acting on those racial attitudes is clearly not OK and where we find it people can expect that I will deal with them in the strongest possible terms,” he said.
